Sanaa - Sheba:

The Chairman of the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprise Development, Ahmed Al-Kabsi, and the Director of the Executive Unit for Financing Agricultural and Fishery Projects and Initiatives in the Capital Secretariat, Engineer Abdullah Sharaf, today inspected the progress of activities in a number of summer centers in the Capital Secretariat.

Al-Kabsi and Sharaf, along with the Deputy Director of the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Dr. Mustafa Atif, were briefed on the progress of implementing community awareness-raising courses in the food industries, which are held within the activities and programs of the summer centres, and implemented by the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprise Development in coordination with the Rushd Foundation for Development and Research, and with funding from the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit.

The visitors listened to an explanation from those in charge of the centers about the level of performance and demand for the summer centers, the nature of the educational, cultural, pedagogical and sports activities provided to the students, the extent of their interaction with them, and the impact they achieve in developing their abilities and skills and refining their talents in various fields, as well as the progress of implementing community awareness courses in the food industries.

During the visits, Al-Kabsi considered the inclusion of food industry awareness programs within the activities of the summer centers as a qualitative step towards linking education with development and production, noting that these programs contribute to spreading the culture of work and production among young people, and enhance their abilities to benefit from local resources.

He pointed out that the Authority was keen to integrate food manufacturing concepts into the activities and programs of nearly 100 summer centers in the capital secretariat, because of its pivotal role in enhancing food security and empowering families economically, especially in light of the current challenges, which require transforming knowledge into applied skills that can be used at the family and community levels.

He explained that the project of courses to raise community awareness in the food industries aims to spread awareness of the food industries, especially in the field of dairy and its derivatives, by training about 2,500 female students, which contributes to the economic empowerment of their families.

The head of the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprise Development indicated that the Authority worked to qualify about 55 female trainers in the fields of food manufacturing and that the interventions implemented in this aspect included the implementation of an integrated program that began with preparing and developing the training package, and preparing the necessary infrastructure for practical training, in addition to designing assessment tools to accredit qualified female trainers, in addition to training them on home production, implementing community awareness activities, and producing supportive awareness flashes to enhance the training content for female students.

Al-Asghar stated that the training program for these courses focuses on the practical aspect, especially in the field of production of dairy products, where the students receive practical training on manufacturing them using home methods using natural milk, which enables families to meet part of their nutritional needs and reduce the cost of living.

He pointed out that awareness-raising courses also include training female students on food preservation methods and their applications, with a focus on the production of yogurt, labneh, buttermilk and liquid cheese, which enhances female students’ skills in the field of home food manufacturing and opens up future production horizons for them.

The visitors praised the distinguished organization, attendance and good interaction of the female students, and the great efforts made by the trainers, educational and administrative staff and their keenness to make the summer center activities a success.
